This weekend was the best of times. If you're waiting for me to say it was also the worst of times, you might want to pop a squat, 'cause I ain't gonna. Handsome had Saturday AND Sunday off (I know, stifle your shouts of disbelief please, don't all yell at once.), and yes, I called the presses, it'll be in the mid-week edition. So we took advantage of our time and made it a weekend to remember.
I feel it is only right, at this juncture, to state that my initial posting was incorrect, and we do not always miss each other's schedules. So when the day comes up again where we do miss each other's off times, please direct me back here and remind me of the glorious weekend escape we had. Oh July, you surely went out with a bang.
ASIDE: July came in with a bang, too. Because of the fireworks and all. That's cool.

I'll never take a better fireworks picture. I've come to grips with the reality of it. Anyway, who would want to?? |
This weekend, I got the chance to pretend that Handsome and I had taken off to some faraway land, and we were on vacation. Duke-a-loop is still recuperating from his header out of the back of the truck, and also a cut he got on his foot (I know, dog owners of the year, right here), and he slept for most of the weekend. Which makes sense, in my fantasy land, because it costs too much money to take a dog on a plane, so we probably had to leave him at a puppy camp for the weekend while we explored the exotic tropics. Yeah, that was it.
We found ourselves in this weird foreign land, where large green monsters chased each other through the electric fences. |
Seriously, the Kudzu (which is a foreigner's attempt to take over our land here in the South, or a demon incarnate, depending on who you ask) makes everything look like a sculpture that should be in a fancy shmancy garden or something. I like it. Of course, I don't really have to deal with it, I just admire it from afar. Word is, the only cure for it is goats.
And if I do get a little carried away with the feeling that we're on vacation somewhere exotic and adventuresome, can you really blame me? I mean, we've got some beautiful country down here, and the humidity is definitely hitting the tropical levels. I do find, though, that if I'm thirsty, I can just take a deep breath and then I'm not so thirsty any more.
Just a random waterfall feeding into the lake. You know, because that's something you find when you're vacationing in a foreign land. |
We would have stayed on our *cough* houseboat, but we were only there for the weekend. |
Handsome decided that he needed to explore this place from top to bottom. (My grandma thinks he gets more attractive every time we visit. I'm gonna have to agree, he's aging well!) |
So down... |
...down... |
... down he went. |
He brought me back some souvenirs from the deep depths of the wild untameable lake. Who knew they had Oakleys
and Titleists
in the Amazon? (does the amazon even have a lake? I mean the jungle, not the river. Whatever, I'm just naming exotic places anyhow. Lets say it was the Congo. No one depend on me for factual geographic advice.)
As you can tell, I am quite taken with my weekend. We really did have a great time, exploring the place around us, that felt like it could have been miles away. I want to travel, I do (in case that wasn't obvious). But its not in the cards for us right now. Something about buying a house and starting jobs and... school. I don't want to say that last one too loud, in case someone hears me. Until we can travel far and see the exotic and tropic places, we'll keep exploring around here. Its pretty close to the same thing :-)
Oh, and to top it all off, we visited somewhere that was definitely not exotic. No ma'am, it was South Cackalacky, through and through.
Whambamthankyouma'am, with Boil'd Peanuts to boot.
Welcome to the South.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well. And if you must take a vacation stateside, please allow me to suggest the ever-lovely Upstate of SC. Its a trip around the world, with the comforts of sweet tea and flushable toilets. What more could you want?
Inexplicably Jet-lagged,
TFW
