Remember, back when the old Mariah was here? You know, the one who ate sweets? (I can't wait to meet her again!) Well, remember her? Remember how she used to make Chewy Chocolate Meringues like it was her job?

You know, these things? |
Well, whenever she would do that, she'd always end up with 7-8 egg yolks just laying around. What was a girl to do with so many egg yolks? She never knew.
I'm happy to report, that this new Mariah (who will soon become old Mariah, in approx 19 days) has the solution! First, let me say that I didn't think of this all on my own. I found a great website that has a list of "Things to do with Egg Yolks", listing recipes that use one to eight yolks. It's pretty fantastic.
ASIDE: Honestly, other than a few moments of panic where I felt like I needed something sweet right now!, the whole "giving up sweets for Lent"-thing has been (a) rewarding and (b) not that bad. I've definitely thought more about Easter, Jesus's life & death, and my reliance on God, because of it. So I suppose this fasting is serving it's purpose. And when it is over, I suppose I'll just have to celebrate. Cake Week 2012. It's gonna happen people.
One thing old Mariah and new Mariah have in common is their love for Chicken Noodle Soup. It's a deep love, a timeless love, a season-ignoring love. I'm actually thinking about making it this week, despite the consistent 80*F-plus temperatures. And wouldn't you know, there's a recipe that ties in nicely!

Beautiful Day! Would you just look at that. That is a fine specimen of pasta dough. |
Smitten Kitchen posted a recipe called 7-yolk pasta. Did you see that? The meringues call for approx 7 egg whites, and the pasta dough calls for approx 7 egg yolks. A perfect pairing, seeing as they are basically my two favorite foods of late (don't worry, chocolate-covered-strawberries, you'll always be the true number one).
There's a bunch more "what to do with egg yolk" recipes on there, like this 8-yolk Flan and an 8-yolk Creme brulee (both of which Handsome would categorize as "So, basically, it's pudding"). There's also a 2-yolk Chocolate *actual* pudding. There's Alfredo Sauce (2-yolks) and Ice Cream (8-yolks). There's even a handy how-to for freezing single servings of egg yolks that I'm going to have to try!
Now I'm off to grocery shop for our company that is coming to town! Handsome's parents will be here for 6 days, 5 nights (makes it sound like a cruise, no?), and I'm so excited! After shopping, I'll be making the Ice Cream from above, because (a) I've got a boatload of egg yolks in my freezer already, stabilized with sugar (which means I should use them in a sweet recipe), (b) it's so nice out, it qualifies as ice cream weather, and (c) Handsome's Pa (haha... we're Yankees. We'd never actually call him "Pa") loves him some ice cream. Although I won't be imbibing on any of that lovely frozen custard, I'll whip up a batch just for him.
BecauseI routinely buy people's affections with food I'm nice like that.
Because
Here's hoping you have a beautiful weekend, a "found a use for something I thought was useless" weekend, a Lucky weekend, and a love-y weekend. I'm so excited right now, I sending you off in a very special manner... *MWAH*!
