So much of my expectations of summer rest squarely on the shoulders of food. I expect summer to provide me with my yearly helping of sun-warmed berries, sweet corn-on-the-cob, and s'mores. I expect lemonade and funnel cakes from the fairs & festivals that I expect to go to. I expect icecream and cobblers, watermelon and tall drinks of water.
It's blowing my mind that June is nearly over. I'm pretty sure it's early May still, and I'm anxiously awaiting something to happen in my garden. I'm pretty sure I'm still eating fresh strawberries (it's so hard to say goodbye to them every year...) and can't wait for watermelon to come around.
Except watermelon are in season NOW. And I know, because I've had quite a few. And my garden, well, it's, shall we say, peaking.
Ignoring the fact that I've managed to kill 3 out of 4 zucchini plants (a feat which some may have previously thought impossible), the garden is thriving. See that little red tomato hanging out in there? We've got about 40-gazillion more that are ready to ripen. I've pulled & used some onions, and I've (prematurely) pulled some carrots, too! Today was the first for the 'maters and the 'taters, though.
It seems so unreal to me that this month is flying by. Soon it's July and then there's fireworks and a wedding the first week of August, and then... and if I keep going, I'm going to need to put my head between my knees and breath into a paper bag. Is this summer flying as fast for you as it is for me?
Today was errands and programming and getting stuff done. But it was also pancakes with Handsome & my Momma, and tormenting the dog, and a moment in the stillness of the garden. Today is good. It just takes me a minute to calm down and enjoy it.
Let's carpe the crap out of this diem,
TFW
