I haven't had any cravings, really. I mean, no more than normal. I remember, my first year of grad school, I passed the time in some less-than-exciting classes by writing down the food I wanted to eat RightAtThatMoment. It usually looked like this: Nachos... Soft Pretzel... BBQ Sandwich.... Milky Way... Doritos... I didn't eat all of that. At least, not all at once, but I loved making the lists. I always want some sort of delicious food, and it always seems urgent. So pregnancy hasn't really brought out anything new in me.
However I do indulge my cravings a bit more, as is evidenced in this little recipe here. I may or may not have made it every morning for the past week. And I may or may not be drinking it for the second time today. I'm also trying my darndest to get my fruits and vegetables, so it's gotta balance out somewhere. Right?
So here's a how-to for making this drink-to-end-all-drinks. Trust me. Make it in the morning. Share it with your kids. Refuse to share it with your kids (much more likely). Make it a Saturday morning tradition. A Tuesday morning tradition. A Monday evening tradition. Basically, do whatever you want, as long as you make this delicious drink and enjoy it thoroughly.

Step 1. Chop up 4 dove chocolates. Put 'em in a mug. |

Step 2. Read your little message from Dove. Really, my smile probably is my best feature right now. |

Step 3. Add some combination of milk and cream. I like to go halvsies. And don't worry about the calories, it's "light" cream. |

While the microwave works its magic, realize that you can't see your feet without craning your neck. Wonder when that happened. |
And that, my lovelies, is how I start my mornings, minus the over-flowing part. It is delicious and rich and warm and filling. Everything you'd want it to be, especially on a cold morning. Like this morning when I left the windows open overnight and it was 61* in the kitchen. Brrrr!!
Word on the street is, you can do this with any sort of chocolate bar. I'd stay away from things with nuts in them, like Snickers, because drinking peanuts in warm milk seems weird. But hey, whatever gets you out of bed in the morning. Let me know if you try it with something exotic!
This made me laugh so hard I had to mute the Tv and read it to kor. The part about the mug. Classic!!
ReplyDeleteThere's a story on the mug, too:
DeleteMy SIL & I saw it at goodwill right before Christmas. We snatched it up, and put it in Dante's stocking with a note that said "Love, Dawna". He opens it up Christmas morning, reads it, and very graciously thanks my mother for it. She just kind of smiles and tells him he's welcome. Meanwhile, my sister reads it, and demands to know where her husband's mug is. So wonderful. Mom then stopped taking credit and admitted that, although she does love Dante like a son, she didn't get him the mug. The end.
I'm sure that overflow/spill could classify under the five-second rule. Now I want some hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI figure, I just recently cleaned the turn table, so it's sort of like one big mug... or something :) Make it, I promise, it's great!
DeleteLooks good. Minus the overflowing part, that is. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnything with chocolate is good by me. I wonder if m&m's would work...

Hmm... I don't know if the candy coating would give you any trouble... You might want to try melting them by themselves first, to see if it works. But, I mean, if it's all you've got, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
DeleteYUM. The part about the peanuts made me giggle. Plus, yay for a mommy tummy!
ReplyDeleteSO GOOD, Abby! Seriously, you should try it, even if TX isn't cold enough yet (is it?)!
DeleteOh, that looks amazing. But I think you have to be pregnant to get away with that every morning!
ReplyDeleteI'll take that challenge (it was a challenge, right?) and see how long I can keep it up :) ha ha ha!
DeleteYUM YUM YUM. This is perfect! I've never even thought of making hot cocoa with real chocolate. Duh! Silly me.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine got this book (http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Chocolate-Heavenly-Comfort-Series/dp/B004NSVER8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1CB6QYSKBHAZB&coliid=I1N9MTVY9063ZA) a few years ago, and the idea blew my mind. Then I forgot, and remembered about it last week :) Plus, there's no water to mess it up! It's all goodness!
DeleteOh, I am ON this! Thanks, Sweets.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't feel in any way constrained to use plain chocolate. I see you being a person to take it to the next level. Carmellos, anyone??? :)
DeleteI think I am crying right now.....yeah you do that to me. Bring me tears of joy.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to go with "make it in the morning and refuse to share it with your kids". Yeah, that's the way to go.
ReplyDeletethat's what i need right now. indeed.
