Procrastination Motivation :: Blanket Sewing

Nothing motivates me more than a deadline.  However, when a deadline is imposed, I'm not motivated to get the work done.  Oh no.  No, I'm motivated to do something, anything else.  Leaving for a plane ride in 4 hours?  Sounds like its time to sew a new wallet.  People coming over in 45 minutes?  Better finish that book I've been reading.  Deadline for research?  Sounds like I'd better make #RG a new blanket!

So I did.  I made my girl, the queen of blankets, a new blanket.  But guys.  Seriously.  I've been dreaming about this blanket for months.  Ever since I got it in my head that what Riley really needed was a jersey blanket.  Not a ruffle quilt (check), not a hand-made chenille throw (check), not a whole-cloth quilt or a paper-pieced quilt or a t-shirt & flannel quilt (check, check, and check).  Nope, what she really needed was a jersey blanket to be hers for forever and ever.

Given my procrastination-induced creating frenzy bent, it was no wonder that, with a deadline looming and a long awaited package in the mail, magic happened.  (This is now the part of the show where I display oodles of pictures of the blanket, and Riley Girl playing with the blanket, and more of the blanket.  That I love. Continue.)

The distinguishing features of this blanket (that should have been read in a snotty, somelier tone) include its earthy aroma coordinating stripe on the bottom third of the front, along with a matching "RG".  I guess I could have used my girl's actual monogram, but I call her RG, you know her as RG... she's just "RG".  Riley Girl.  I like it, although I did contemplate using a "#" in front, I felt that was a bit too far ;)  There is also a sweet little ruffle on the back side, just to tie everything together.  And also because I love ruffles!

I ordered 1 1/2 yards of each of the Birch Organic Elk Grove Knits, specifically Elk Family in Multi & Skinny Chevron in Coral.  Oh my.  I ordered from this sweet store on Etsy, and the fabric was everything I dreamed it would be, the colors were exact, and the shipping was wicked fast!  I actually placed a custom order to get the additional 1/2 yard, and it was nice to see "Reserved for Mariah" pop up on the screen!

The fabric, my lawd!  I love it.  The Elk you guys?? ITS HEATHER!  or HEATHERED or whatever it means, but you see what I'm saying, its perfection!!  I love heather __(insert color here)_ so much, I was thrilled!  If you're interested in this fabric, I'd find some and snatch it up quickly, it goes out of stock very frequently.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, a picture montage of RG playing peek-a-boo with her new blanket.  I'm pretty sure that no one loves it as much as I do, but she did enjoy it, so I'm calling it a win!  I made this blanket approx. 50% larger than her other baby quilts, since she's 100% larger than she used to be, and so that it can be used for a long time!  I'm seeing several games of peek-a-boo in this blanket's future, along with it being an integral part in fort-building and cape-wearing!

  1. THIS. FABRIC. Oh my word! I'm considering making an adult sized blanket out of it!!! It turned out beautifully - procrastination-induced or otherwise :)
