New Year Goals

I'm sitting on my couch.  In my basement.  With my dog.

Let the party begin!

But really.  I am.  And I'm not sad.  I'm actually excited because I see no reason to stay up past 8:30.  And since I've been feeling a little less than awesome, and since RG has decided that napping is for chumps and she prefers to stand in her crib and holler, and since its illegal to rachet strap your children to their mattress, I'm choosing not to manufacture a reason, and instead make a good choice and sleep sleep sleep in the new year.

This is approximately how much partying I'm planning to do tonight.
And I mean the sleeping.
Not the size of the cheeks.
If I was partying as much as Riley has cheeks, I'd need you to post bail for me.

I do have some salsa and some chips that were opened before Chirstmas, in case I feel like getting rowdy. My neighbors are helping me feel like I'm participating in festivities by shooting off fireworks, so there's that as well.

I'm not doing resolutions or any such thing as that this year.  I'm also not waxing intropsective on you, since I don't like it and you can't make me.  Instead, I'm listing some things I'd like to have happen.  Goals, if you will.  But soft goals.  Flexible goals.  Fun goals.

So here they are, my list of "would be nice to do"'s for 2014!

  1. Ride a horse.  I miss riding like whoa.  Which is funny, because when you're riding, you often say "whoa".  But seriously.  I miss it real bad, and I intend to get serious about finding a place/person who will let me ride.  So I can be me again.
  2. Waste less money.  I'm a self-professed nickel & dimer.  Three dollars here, a $13 lunch there, a little hem, a little haw, and boom - my money is used up.  I'd like to see myself be smarter about things like that.
  3. Make stuff.  I love making stuff.  I want to continue to do that.  I've got a sewing table sitting in Handsome's truck bed, and a fancy new glass cutter in the cupboard.  In 2014, stuff will be made.  You can count on it.
  4. Love on people.  It is waaay too easy to go through life in your own little bubble.  And while it is easier not to love people, its lonely, and it leaves so much to be desired.  I don't want to have that regret, so I'm going into 2014 with open arms.
  5. Be strong again.  I liked it when I was strong, both in lifting heavy things and endurance.  I'd like to be that way again.  A friend & I are doing Jillian's 30 day shred together, starting tomorrow.  Or as "together" as you can with 600 miles between you.  I keep staring at her smug little face (Jillian's, not my friend's) and thinking "You can't tell me what to do".  But I'm going to do it anyhow, because I want to.
  6. Work with more intentionality.  I've got to get stuff done.  There's no excuse.  There is only to do.  That sounds kind of wise and Yoda-like, so I'm going to stop.
  7. Eat delicious things.
  8. Have adventures.  Be brave about them.
That's it.  It seems like a good list.  I like all of the items.  I like how some are specific and some aren't.  Apparently I'm doing alright in my "change your Type A ways" campaign.  What are you doing in 2014?  Are you making resolutions?  Goals?

Either way, happy new year, folks.  Thanks for connecting with me here, and being my friends!  Here's hoping you party just as much as you'd like, both tonight and this new year!

I totally hear you on 4. Especially when you have a kid! I realized that in the last year, we only had people over when they were baby-sitting Kara. Which happened... three times.

I did the 30-Day Shred! Felt pretty awesome about myself. I didn't mind Jillian Michaels too much until I found Coach Kozak on hasfit.com. After a couple workouts with him, I went back to Jillian, and I hated her, talking about how difficult the workout is when she's done like 2 pushups. But she did get me started on the whole strength training plus cardio thing. So what I mean is... good luck! Get ripped! Feel awesome about yourself! :)

  3. I am supportive of all goals (especially number 7... and number 4 if by "people" you mean me, as I read it... and especially especially if we can combine these two into one super resolution). Although number 2 poses a problem, because I was actually hoping to proliferate those $13 lunches. But, for you, I will pack PB&Js and sit in the Carillon, if that is how it must be.
