WFMW - Amazon Smile & Rhinestone Jesus

Hello friends!  I'm linking up with Works For Me Wednesday (WFMW), a link-up that the lovely Kristen Welch (author of the awesome book, Rhinestone Jesus!) and blogger behind We Are THAT Family.

My post isn't long, but I wanted to tell you about a way to get $$ flowing to the charity of your choice, just by using Amazon.  Now, while I love Amazon dearly, I am 97% sure that they are taking over the world.  Seriously, did you see that they're working on delivery drones?  I can't even!

Ahem.  Anyhow, Amazon.com is likely taking over the world one Subscribe 'n Save order of Cottonelle at a time (is there anything better than TP delivered to your door?  I think not.) but while they go about that business, they're offering you a chance to make some of their profit go towards a charity of your choice.  The program is called Amazon Smile, and you can read all about it here.  Basically, if you go to smile.amazon.com, instead of amazon.com next time you want to order a fabulous book about saying "yes" to Jesus, even though you don't know where that "yes" is going to take you, and even if its quite likely that that "yes" is going to make your life quite messy, if you wanted to order such a book, well, you'd go to smile.amazon.com and then you'd see a page that looks an awful lot like the normal amazon.com page, except for one teensy tiny little thing...

See that?

It says that I'm supporting Kiva Microfunds, one of my favorite charities.  And since you asked, Kiva Microfunds allows you to be a huge part of helping specific people in 3rd world countries achieve specific career goals.  Like today, I got to send some dolla dolla bills yo to Fred in Uganda (where My Man Amos lives) to partially finance a loan for house building.  There are loan applications from single moms trying to provide for their families, there are loan applications from groups looking to benefit their entire community... there's lots of options, friends, if you're willing to float someone $25.  You'll get it back.  I've gotten to loan the same $25 three or four times now, because I keep getting repaid, and then I think "Well, I haven't missed it, let's send that little moola out to do some good again."  You can even choose loans based on their pay-back schedule, country, application, or search by a name that you like.  Like "Fred".

Anyhow, every time I buy something from smile.amazon.com, 0.5% of my purchase gets sent to Kiva instead of to Amazon.com's busting coffers.  And that?  That makes me smile.  If you'd prefer, you can even install the Smile button on your browser, so that you don't have to think to type "smile<dot>amazon<dot>com" every time.  Bloomin' easy, and nothing out of your pocket.  That's one method of giving to charity that most definitely works for me!
