Some Things Aren't so Bad in the Rain

Its raining.

Again.

Those two above facts please me to no end.  Do I want to live in a perpetual rainy season, no.  But I've missed the rain.  We don't get many good thunderstorms between the months of November & February, and I've missed them.  Not that its thundering now, but you know what I mean.

I haven't shared this yet, but I recently started WeightWatchers online.  I have some key items of clothing that now no longer fit, and I want them to.  So rather than move a size up (and spend the $$ to do it), I'm going to get fit.  Another secret I haven't really shared is that I gained about 20 lbs within the first 6 months I was married. Something about happiness and contentment mixed in with grad school and missing home, along with a dash of having my own kitchen culminated in tipping the scale up quite a few lbs.  So this "getting fit" is warranted.  In case you were concerned.

So anyhow, one facet of WW is to get "Activity Points" in everyday, with a goal of 4 or 5 a day (I don't quite remember).  It was pouring yesterday, and so I had none.  And today it is only sprinkling.  And I thought, "I'll be darned if I'm going to miss another days activity!"  And so I went outside and started weeding my garden, which I'm prepping for Spring Vegetables.  And something about being outside, despite the now-actual-downfall of rain that was happening, and working with my hands, and actually experiencing nature, was great.  And yes, the rain ran through my hair and into my face.  And yes, it was a little bit cold.  But there was something wonderful about it, too.

When I was younger, I used to lead horse trails through the forests of PA, all summer long.  And I loved it.  The only downside was when it was raining, for two reasons: (1) Nobody wanted to go riding or (2) Crazy people did want to go riding, even in the cold.  So, as long as there was no lightning, we would take out the crazies, garbed in parkas and whatnot, and go for an hour's trail ride through the woods.  Except I never remembered a parka.  Or I had to ride a skittish horse who didn't like parkas.  Or some other excuse, but I nearly always ended up soaking wet.

Although I am pretty sure I disliked it at the time (who wants to wear wet jeans all day?  Not this girl!), enough time has passed for me to romanticize it and remember it fondly.  Rain dropping through the trees.  Everything super green and alive.  Better chance of seeing deer running around.  The horse keeping you warm as best it could.

Today sort of felt like that.  Except it was only 20 min, not an hour, and I don't currently smell like wet horse; basically, all of the benefits.  Somehow rain just makes things good again.  What has the rain made good for you??

Delightfully soaked,
TFW
