- Thunderstorms: Bring it on!
- Heat Lightning: Do your worst!
- Tornado: Want to see one in person!
- Hurricane: Sideways rain is awesome!
- Blizzard: Tell Pa to put the presents in the barn and break out the board games!
NOTE: I understand that these forms of weather can wreck havoc on people's lives, and I do not take that lightly.
I've always loved storms. Storms in the woods make me feel like I'm in Bambi (*drip drip drop little april showers...*). Storms at Sea call to all sorts of nostalgic and romantic ideas about the wide open ocean. I think about Jesus and the Disciples at sea when their boat was caught in an awful storm, one so bad that the Son of God had to calm it. In theory, I would have loved to be there. I've never been on the ocean during a storm, and I believe people who have who say its terrifying. But I love the idea of it. Storms are just full of such raw power to me. I know God created them, because he made everything. I think sometimes, He's just showing a little glimpse of what he's capable of. And I like a God with that kind of power. No measly little wimpy gods for me, no thank you ma'am. I want one who can actually make mountains move with earthquakes and fill a sky with smoke from a volcano. Only a God that big will do for me.
I took some photos of the "storm" (if you can call it that) that did end up passing through our area tonight. There was little thunder and even less rain, but I captured a few glimpses of the lightning. And that pleased me, since I've never been able to do so before. This time, I set my P&S camera to "burst" and just held down the button. I had to sort through about 45 pictures, but I got 6 that had lightning in them!
On a totally unrelated note, lightning always makes me wonder about Sweet Home Alabama and if you rally can put rods in the sand and make glass sculptures using lightning like Jake does in the movie. I don't think you can, but I would buy some if its possible. In case anyone is selling.
And finally, a fun fact this Saturday night: The moon is at its perigee tonight, the point in its orbit when it is closest to the earth. And this isn't any perigee, no. According to NASA, its a SUPER perigee moon, the largest in 20 years. So last time this type of moon came around, I was ironing crayon shavings between waxed paper and calling it a sun catcher.
Honestly, it doesn't seem that large to me tonight, but its definitely full!
Love you to the moon,
TFW
